If you're an atheist, from whence do human rights come?

A deist god could give those same rights. It doesn't take a personal god to "give" you rights on birth. I think Jefferson was really more deistic and less theistic than you're giving him credit. Anybody can use the term god in a very loose "laws of nature" sense (e.g. that famous quote from Einstein about god not playing dice with the universe).
