Will this cause my handgun to jam?

I own a XDm 40s&w full sized handgun. I keep it near my bed for home defense. I use the winchester PDX 1 bonded JHP as the ammo in the clip. Now my question is if an intruder was to enter and I needed to the gun, if I pulled back the slide and let it go foreword slowly to reduce the noise would this cause the gun to malfunction or jam? When I took my saftey course the instructor said to always pull the slide back and let go and let it slam back into place for a spiny tension issue or something. But when I do this it makes alot of noise. So again my question is will it cause the gun to malfunction if I pull the slide back to chamber the initial round then ease it back into place to reduce the noise? Side not I do not store it loaded 1. Because you never store a gun an ammo together but also 2.because there are children in the house.
